Including three performers wearing zoomorphic masks made of dry lotus leaves, muslin and feathers, “Make Utopia Great Again” is a performance piece that references daily wellness routines and picks apart notions about the natural world and the expression of queerness within it.
In “make utopia Great Again” Maggini tries to evoke a sense of astonishment in the viewer which in turn helps us surpass the confines of “presentness” and our current condition and enables us to experience an alternative time and place, an utopia of sorts. Through gestural dance, physical exercise and the use of natural or found materials, such soil and dried leaves, this work is a reflection on how everyday objects can metamorphose into something new and can move beyond their assigned role as plain and locked-down commodities.
As Maggini said: “Though the evocation of such an utopia makes one susceptible to charges of naiveté, impracticability, or lack of rigor, I strongly believe that we are now called to explore utopian futures with unprecedented urgency”.

Queerness is that things that lets us feel that this world is not enough, that indeed something is missing.
Queerness for me is essentially about the rejection of a here and now and an insistence on potentiality or concrete possibility for another world.
