Alberto Maggini

Alberto Maggini is an Italian multi-disciplinary artist born in Rome (1983), lives and works between Rome and London. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in botany and ecobiology from Sapienza University in Rome and a master’s degree in visual arts from Chelsea College of Arts in London.

In his research he uses carnivalesque and disguise to investigate the change and mutability of social life by trying to understand the rules that govern individual and collective behavior. Through his practice he challenges the fixed roles imposed by our patriarchal culture, finding new meanings to what might be called social structures. In doing so Maggini uses his scientific background to unpack the dichotomy between Nature and Culture, Art and Waste.

Maggini creates work that offers a transformative and ever-transitioning reality, whose narrative produces a new balance between what is natural and what is not, and proposing rituals of liberation toward a new sense of ‘Self.’
